Privacy Policy
Effective Date: February 26, 2026
Earcast ("we," "our," or "us") provides a service that converts web articles into audio delivered through a personal podcast feed. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our browser extension and service.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. This is used solely for authenticating you to the service.
Article Content
When you use the browser extension to convert an article, we collect the text content of the web page you are viewing. This includes the article title, author, publication date, and body text. We do not collect any content from pages you visit unless you explicitly click the extension button to submit an article.
Usage Data
We collect basic usage information such as the number of articles you have converted and the date each article was submitted. We do not track your browsing history, and the extension does not monitor or collect data from pages you visit.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Providing the service — converting submitted articles to audio and delivering them through your personal podcast feed.
- Authentication — verifying your identity when you log in.
- Service improvement — understanding aggregate usage patterns to improve reliability and performance.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Retention
- Article text is processed to generate audio and is retained alongside the audio file so that episodes remain available in your podcast feed.
- Audio files and article metadata are stored on our servers for as long as your account is active.
- You can delete individual episodes or your entire account at any time. Deleting your account removes all associated data from our servers.
Third-Party Services
We use third-party text-to-speech services to generate audio from article text. Article content is sent to these providers solely for the purpose of audio generation. We select providers that maintain appropriate data protection standards.
We do not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking in the browser extension.
Browser Extension Permissions
The browser extension requests only the permissions necessary to function:
- Active tab — to read the content of the current page when you click the extension button.
- Network access — to send article content to our servers and authenticate your account.
- Local storage — to maintain authentication information about the currently logged in user.
The extension does not access your browsing history, and does not collect data from any page unless you explicitly initiate a conversion.
Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data transmission between the extension, your podcast player, and our servers.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data by viewing your podcast feed and account information.
- Delete your data by removing individual episodes or deleting your account.
- Export your data through your podcast feed, which is a standard RSS format accessible by any podcast player.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to request correction of inaccurate data and the right to object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information.
Children's Privacy
Earcast is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy and revising the effective date.
